1.0 Introduction

The GST Council has decided to extend the due date for filing the GSTR 2 and 3 for the month of July 2017. The latest due date for filing the GSTR 2 and 3 are as follows:

GSTR Returns

Revised due date

GSTR 2

31st October 2017

GSTR 3

10th November 2017

In other words, the last date for filing the GSTR 2 and GSTR 3 has been revised. This extension decision has been taken by the GST council and has been declared by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

2.0 Why the due date has been extended?

The major reason behind the extension is the lack of infrastructure of the government due to which people are not able to file their GSTN return. Therefore government had no option left and therefore, they decided to extend the due date for filing the GSTR 2 and 3 for the month of July.

3.0 Whether the GSTR 2 and 3 shall also be extended for the month of August?

Though the government is yet to announce anything on this, it is natural that if the GSTR 1 of July has been extended, then the GSTR 1, 2 and 3 for the month of August shall also be extended.
